Chronicling the Crone

Chronicling-the-Crone_400I looked in the mirror tonight and I saw

a woman

with clear

steel gray eyes,

a beautifully defined collar bone,

and hair claiming the color of the crone.

And she was beautiful

and I bowed to her.

Because I don’t EVER remember looking in the mirror and seeing

Beauty.

In fact, I don’t ever remember looking

in the mirror.

And I weep for all those wasted years that I chose to

see only the flaws

never once noticing the beauty that was mine to behold.

  1. Truly a JEWEL! Radiating out in its quintessential beauty… piercing my heart with its resonance, waking me up to my own. “Mirror Mirror on the Wall… thank you now for seeing my All!”

Yes… I too look forward, deeply, to the years of the crone. Once upon a time, we would be crones! When lifetimes ended much earlier and new ventures were not being taken up at 50! Now we rule as Queens, finally having reached a level of dominion in ourselves and our lives. Cronedom is saved for the likes of Marion Woodman, Mary Oliver, Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

And…. no doubt you are feeling the deeper currents. Not everyone gets to claim cronedom. It is not age. It is wisdom. And yes, indeed you have THAT! In JEWELS!

Sue Ann, I made up my mind a long time ago that MIRRORS have faults! So often we forget that they may be warped or bowed or hung askance… it’s not US. Or at least that’s what I choose to believe. Bravo for embracing the BEAUTIFUL crone in you. Personally, I think that’s a “title” that’s earned.

I almost cried to read this today. I can’t believe that after watching your chocolate photos on FB for over two years, I just now stumbled onto this site. I love it. This poem blessed me greatly this morning.

I hope that your day is beautiful. I also hope that you are just as blessed today as I was, as I lost myself in the writing on both of your websites for the past half hour.
